Pie Face Showdown!

Everyone knows that no Christmas is complete without a board game, and in 2016 a new version of a recent classic has hit the shelves. Pie Face! was one of the best-selling games last festive period, and 2016 is set to be the same with Pie Face: Showdown.

It is simple to use, with players placing their chin rest in front of a spring-loaded arm and hand. The palm is filled with whipped cream or any other messy product, and players then take it in turns to wind a handle that randomly goes off at any time, covering their face in cream. The difference this time is that your handle is in control of the hand that dollops cream on your opponent’s face, creating a true match-up requiring nerves of steel.

Xbox One S

The next generation of consoles is now truly finding its feet, with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One both rapidly expanding their features and games libraries and each receiving upgrades in 2016 in the form of the PlayStation Pro and Xbox One S. In terms of power, the two are relatively similar, with outstanding processing speed and razor sharp graphics, but in terms of value the Xbox One S has the advantage due to its lower price point and additional extras.

The One S’s features include HDR support for games, which improves the graphics of older games on 4K TVs, as well as 4K video support for Ultra HD discs and streaming on Netflix and Amazon, plus backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games. It means that all those old birthday and Christmas presents on the last console will still work on the new one, in addition to new releases such as Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Lego Dimensions

Lego is now as much of a Christmas staple as turkey and charades, and this year Lego Dimensions is set to be all the rave, combining everyone’s favourite Danish plastic buildings blocks with your favourite movie characters and video games.

It works by connecting minifigures and mini kits to a base pad that attaches to the console and transfers your figures into the game. Players can unlock new areas, secrets, missions and entire minigames and truly bring their figurines to life, with a raft of add-on games ensuring hours and even days of entertainment both on and off screen over the festive period and beyond.
