Restaurants in East Lothian

No matter which of our developments you choose, we guarantee you’ll find some great restaurants near our new build homes in East Lothian.

Musselburgh alone has several great restaurants to choose from. If you want a family-run Italian restaurant, Crolla's Italian Kitchen is the perfect choice. For more international flavours, Gurkha, which serves Nepalese and Indian cuisine, and Parrilla Grill with its Argentinian dishes, will have what you’re looking for.

More favourites among locals include The Waterside Bistro, located near River Tyne in Haddington, with its seasonal menus, as well as La Potinière in Gullane, which uses homegrown ingredients in its dishes.

Lastly, who wouldn’t want some seafood by the coastline? The Puffin is a family-run bistro and wine bar in North Berwick serving freshly made seafood and French dishes. And for a meal with views of the Firth of Forth, head to The Lawn, a fine dining restaurant serving Scottish cuisine.

Transport in East Lothian

Travelling by car from our new builds in East Lothian is easy thanks to roads like the A68 and A720 that run through the area, while the A1 has junctions at major towns across East Lothian, offering connections to Edinburgh and many places in England such as Doncaster, Durham and Newcastle.

There’s also the M8 nearby, connecting you to other parts of Scotland. For example, Glasgow is just 90 minutes away, but you can also use it to get to West Lothian and North Lanarkshire.

In terms of train transport, there are 8 train stations in East Lothian, like those in Musselburgh, Prestonpans and Dunbar, all served by trains running to Edinburgh, where you can then change for direct links to London and the rest of England.

And for anyone wanting a holiday abroad, Edinburgh Airport is less than an hour by car from most places in East Lothian. The airport offers flights to over 150 destinations worldwide, including Switzerland, Malta and Egypt.

Shopping in East Lothian

With many community-focused towns and villages across the area, you’ll find plenty of independent shops near our new homes in East Lothian.

For local Scottish produce, you’ll want to visit one of the several markets which take place in the area. Haddington Farmers' Market takes place on the last Saturday of every month and runs from morning to afternoon, where you can browse more than 20 stalls.

Alternatively, if you want to grab local produce any time of the week, the Mart Farm Shop & Cafe in East Linton has a large selection of goods, and you can even order it to be delivered if you can’t make it there yourself.

But if you’re looking to take a day for some retail therapy, Fort Kinnaird in nearby Edinburgh offers more than 70 shops as well as plenty of restaurants and cafes. The shopping centre also hosts regular events throughout the year that are perfect for families with children.

All of this, right on your doorstep

With plenty of things to do near our new homes in East Lothian, you’ll find something for yourself no matter your interests.

Lovers of history (and a good drink) should visit Belhaven Brewery, the oldest working brewery in Scotland. There’s also something for whisky fans, with Glenkinchie Distillery and NB Distillery both worth a visit, but if it’s historical landmarks you’re after, then add Dirleton Castle and Tantallon Castle to your list.

With plenty of coastline to explore, Seacliff Beach and Yellowcraig Beach are just two of the many stunning beaches that can be found in East Lothian, each offering unique features. Both are family-friendly with great views, making them the perfect destination for walking the dog or taking a dip in the ocean (on warmer days).

If your children love marine wildlife, take them to the Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick, where they’ll be able to learn more about the different wildlife found in Scotland. From here you can also hop on a boat trip to the Isle of May, where you can explore the Isle of May National Nature Reserve.
