Summer’s here and it’s the perfect time to tackle that cluttered garage.

Whether you're making room for bikes, new gardening tools or weekend home projects, a well-organised garage can make all the difference.

Let’s dive into some simple tips to get your garage summer-ready.

Declutter first

Before you start to organise, you firstly need to declutter and it’s the perfect time to do that while the weather is nice.

A good place to start is to take everything out of the garage, so you can see what you’re working with. Sort all your items into categories: keep, donate, sell or throw away.

From old paint to broken tools, try and be honest with yourself about what you actually use. If it hasn’t been used in over a year, it’s probably time to let it go.

Create functional zones

Once you’ve decluttered, it’s time to give everything a new home by creating functional areas within your garage space.

Think about the types of things you have and how they can be put into zones. Like tools in one area, gardening supplies in another and sports gear in its own spot.

By assigning each item a specific place in your garage, you’ll save time, reduce mess and make it much easier to find what you need all summer long.

Space saving storage

Having a garage is a great bonus for extra storage, but it’s important to maximise the space you have to keep it organised and functional.

Make use of all four walls with vertical storage such as wall-mounted shelving, pegboards for tools or even overhead ceiling racks for large, seasonal items – keeping your things off the floor and out of the way.

You could even repurpose household items, such as old kitchen cabinets or sets of drawers which can be reused for storing small parts.

Stock the right tools

With summer being the perfect time to tackle home improvement projects, garden updates or simple home repairs its essential you have the right tools to do the job.

Whilst doing your garage reorganisation, take inventory of what you already have and make sure your basics like a hammer, screwdrivers, measuring tape and a drill are easily accessible.

For seasonal tasks, consider adding tools like a hedge trimmer, garden hose or outdoor extension cords and make these easily accessible during the summer months.

A well-stocked garage means less running to the hardware store and more time actually enjoying your summer projects.
