Stylish storage ideas3

At this time of year, with sunshine finally streaming through our windows, thoughts often turn to spring cleaning.

One of the easiest ways to make cleaning more efficient is to get your home organised. When every item has a place to go, tidying is much more effortless, allowing us to quickly pick up and put away the detritus of everyday life.

If you’re looking for some stylish storage ideas, we have got you covered. Give those big plastic boxes a miss and check out our favourite ways to get organised and give your home the fresh spring look it deserves.

Round it up

While many storage pieces take up precious floor space, look to your walls this season to do the heavy lifting. Curves are in this season for every room in the home so consider wall shelves in circular shapes for everything from book storage in the office to holding lotions, potions and more in your bathroom.

The Range carry a metal shelf with an industrial flair, perfect for the kitchen to hold glasses, mugs and spices or look to Maisons du Monde for a rattan version which will give your space a bohemian vibe.

Cosy Corners

Often overlooked and unused, awkward corners can be brought into use for curating the clutter in many rooms. Look for pieces meant to fill that 90-degree angle stylishly to take advantage of every inch of precious space.

We love this space-saving rattan unit from Urban Outfitters, providing a stylish spot for plants, books and décor or use it in a bathroom to store extra towels. If you’re looking for more storage, this corner unit from Argos provides plenty of space to corral a vinyl collection or fill the bottom shelf with baskets to hide away toys and games in the living room.

Double-Duty

If you’re struggling for space, let your furniture work for you with storage solutions that go the extra mile. Look for a coffee table with drawers or shelves to store books, magazines, games and remote controls. Instead of a standard bench in your hallway, why not try a blanket box which can be used as a spot to remove shoes but easily hides away shoes, scarves and more inside.

We love this stylish velvet and brass bench seat from MADE with hidden storage for the bottom of the bed which can house extra linens or out of season clothing. This bedside table from Atkins & Thyme has a pretty carved design and brass feet, but includes practical drawers to stash books, tissues and hand lotion out of sight.

Let it Hang

Finally, look out for hanging storage pieces that not only look good, but work hard too. The backs of doors are often the perfect spot for storing shoes in a bedroom or towels and products in the bathroom. We particularly like this four-tier basket version from Urban Outfitters.

In the kitchen, consider a long rail that runs underneath shelves or top cupboards to make the most of unused vertical space. With some simple S hooks, you’ll free up drawer space for mugs, utensils or even pots and pans. Check out deVOL for custom options or Rowen and Wren for off-the-shelf versions.
