Avant Life: Style Series – Trends in tiles

Ban3

In the first edition of the Avant Life: Style Series, we’ve spoken to Jane Addis from Original Style on the hottest tile trends of the moment.

It’s about this time of year that I head back from Europe’s biggest tile fair feeling enthused, inspired and very tired!

This year was my 13th year of attendance and I can honestly say I never tire of spotting the latest ceramic trends, colours and new technologies that enhance the industry.

I’ve worked in the ceramics industry for 14 years now and feel very lucky to be working in such a creative industry and also dealing with such fabulous companies like Avant Homes! One of the many reasons I love working with Avant is our shared design vision and its passion to give customers exciting, bold and creative tiling schemes.

Herringbone tiling, fully tiled bathrooms, bold and striking colourways are just a few of the amazing statements Avant is happy to make!

The most exciting part of the show for me? Identifying trends that mirror our trend predictions and new specification for Piastrella. What will you choose? Here are the latest trends to try.

Trend 1: Twilight

Dark, bold and dramatic, this trend brings atmosphere and ambience to any room. Deep grey and near blacks teamed with rusty tones, paired with heritage style geometric prints, this look is super stylish and utterly on trend!

Trend 2: Botanical

Gorgeous green leafy prints, tropical palms, luscious leaves and pretty repeating patterns. If you want to bring the outside indoors then this trend is a perfect choice!

Trend 3: New Heritage

Patterns with a historical influence and feel, lovely rustic finishes, cool white plains with timeless and classic appeal. This trend will stand the test of time!

It’s time to showcase our #MyAvantStyle winners!

1. Why did you choose those tiles for your bathroom?

We chose those tiles as initially we were worried about not having a window in the main bathroom and concerned that it would look too dark, so wanted some lighter tiles. However, we needn't have worried as the downlighters in there make the room so bright and cosy. We also love the fact that the feature wall is a different colour and it's all included as standard!

2. What's your favourite bathroom accessory/decor that makes your tiles POP?

Oooh as for a favourite accessory I do love my wooden sign above the loo as I love silly humour like that but I think the mirror really makes the tiles pop. I initially wanted a huge mirror for the space above the loo but I didn't want to cover up our tiles!

3. Do you have any tips for someone choosing tiles for their new home?

My tip would be visit as many show homes as you can. We went to all the show homes within a 30-mile radius. I changed my mind 100 times initially as they're all so gorgeous, but we eventually agreed and were happy we had seen all the combinations possible.

1. Why did you choose those tiles for your bathroom?

We loved the effect on the main wall when walking into the bathroom and thought we would keep it classy and bold and could then just add colour with accessories!

2. What's your favourite bathroom accessory/decor that makes your tiles POP?

My favourite accessory is for sure the corner shelf unit where we store all our bathroom items! It’s space effective and keeps the bathroom looking clean and uncluttered.

3. Do you have any tips for someone choosing tiles for their new home?

Our major tip would be to ensure your floor tiles all match. We wanted to be sure of that as these bathrooms come with ceiling to floor bath tiles.

We are thrilled with our tile decisions in all 3 of our bathrooms and the range of tiles is such high quality and so easy to clean and keep fresh. All our guests comment on the tiles in the downstairs toilet - simple but effective!

1. Why did you choose those tiles for your bathroom?

I chose the tiles because I wanted a classic tile with a bit of colour that was still neutral so it would be easy to add pops of colour with accessories.

2. What's your favourite bathroom accessory/decor that makes your tiles POP?

I love plants in the bathroom, and colourful towels to make the tiles pop.

3. Do you have any tips for someone choosing tiles for their new home?

Visit as many showhomes as you can to get lots of ideas, and nosey at other people’s [homes] on Instagram

1. Why did you choose those tiles for your bathroom?

We picked the blue tiles as they had loads of character. Normally I would have chosen something neutral, but it was something about that blue tile that made me fall in love. The colour is so unique that it was that reason we fell in love.

2. What’s your favourite bathroom accessory/decor that makes your tiles POP?

The mirrored tray and blue vase of eucalyptus. The mirrored tray really highlights the shine on the tiles.

3. Do you have any tips for someone choosing tiles for their new home?

Always go with your gut instinct when picking tiles. If you love something, go for it as you will regret it if not. I couldn’t stop thinking about these tiles which is why I had to get them!
