Movie madness: How to create your own outdoor cinema

Garden cinema2

Over recent months, we have seen homeowners make great use of their time and transform their gardens with everything from a miniature pub to a hot tub homecation.

However, some are going one step further by bringing the movie magic to their door with an outdoor cinema!

And, with some local cinemas not quite open yet, it’s a great alternative to a fun night in. Yes, we know you can’t see the latest movies from the comfort of your garden, but you can binge watch all your favourites while also streaming the greatest from the likes of Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime. Plus, you won’t be distracted by a stranger five seats down rustling their popcorn.

Find out how you can create your very own garden cinema without breaking the bank with our guide.

Position is key

First things first, where can you feature the outdoor cinema, that will compliment your garden? There are many factors when considering this, such as where will you get the least glare from the sun and what can a screen be secured to if it gets windy or, most importantly. rainy?

However, if you choose not to have a screen and just want a projector, ensure to opt for a flat, clean surface that isn’t going to take away from your home movie experience. For example, position your outdoor cinema where you can project onto a concrete wall, fence panel or the outer wall of a shed or garage.

The big screen effect

If staying at home to watch your favourite movies is the one for you, but you still want the effects of the cinema then investing in a screen is definitely something to look into. There are a few different options you can choose from when purchasing a cinema screen.

First is the inflatable screen. With its quick installation and lightweight material, this could be used for so much more than a garden movie theatre! It’s ideal for streaming sports games, setting up at a party or packing away to take camping.

If an inflatable screen is a bit more than you bargained for, why not try a screen with a foldable stand? With quick assembly, a stable frame and securing ropes to combat windy weather included, thisis  a great choice when it comes to setting up your outdoor cinema.

Lastly, how about a traditional pull-down projector screen? The last time you saw these may have been in school, but they’re a first-class option when it comes to playing garden movies. Easy to install on the fence or garage and you can simply pull down whenever you want that home movie experience.

Project with your latest garden project

There are a whole host of home cinema projectors out there for all people on the tech-savvy spectrum which also appeal to your bank balance.

Many of the projectors out there offer great visibility whether it’s light or dark outside and have good connectivity options, with the majority allowing for HDMI connections through a laptop or a USB hosting its own movie files.

If you fancy pushing the boat out and spending a little more on your new gadget, home cinema projectors now feature Bluetooth and Wi-Fi meaning you can easily stream your favourite films and TV shows outside.

The best seat in the house

Now most importantly, your seat setup needs to be on point to get that cosy, immersive home cinema feeling.

If you already have garden furniture, then you’re halfway there, add some soft throws and plenty of waterproof cushions, and you’re all set. Your only worry now is being so comfy that you fall asleep 30 minutes into the film!

Plus let’s not forget an outdoor table to keep those all-important movie snacks in reach. Make sure you invest in some stylish outdoor picnic sets too, so there’s no risk of breaking your everyday plates and glasses.
