Autumn home touches for under £40

Autumn Home Trends for Under 41

With the change of seasons, we naturally update our wardrobes in preparation for the upcoming colder weather.

Do you do the same for your home? While you may not want to spend a lot of money completely redecorating – nor is that necessary – you may want to make a few simple updates to your décor to create a warm and cosy feel as the temperatures outside begin to dip. Of course, there’s no need to spend big to give your interiors a touch of warmth.

We’ve gathered a selection of autumn accessories that cost less than £40 to give your interior an instant update and easily take you into the colder months.

Bring in autumn’s colours

One of the easiest ways to welcome autumn into our home is through Mother Nature’s paintbrush.

With trees turning the warmest shades of amber, yellow, rust and crimson, these hues add warmth to a grey sky. Consider updating a plain table with a softly patterned beige tablecloth from H&M (1), and encourage cuddling with a cosy mint green fringed throw from Chickidee (8).

Create a statement with this patterned cushion from H&M (2) in spicy shades or, ditch the traditional framed print for this fun wall art piece from Maisons du Monde (9) in peachy pink hues.

Welcome more texture

For more visual warmth, you’ll also want to add additional textures into your home. While everything we touch has a texture of some description, look out for those items that you want to instinctively reach out and touch.

We love this softly textured plant stand from M&S (12) which will not only add texture but colour and life as well. Woven fabrics are another great way to bring in an unusual texture, and this berber-style cushion from Maisons du Monde (10) is one you won’t be able to resist reaching for.

Dried grasses are big news this season and last longer than traditional flowers. Try a few strands of dried tall Cortaderia Selloana from Little Deer (11) in a large glass vase, and contrast the texture with a leather tray from H&M (3) on a coffee table.

Add a bit of sparkle

Finally, with less natural light during the days and the darkness drawing in sooner, you’ll want to ensure there are items in your home that reflect or give off additional light.

Ensure you have enough ambient, task and accent lighting within a room to create a layered look that’s easily customisable depending on how you are using the space. We love this velvet table lamp from Dunelm Mill (5) which adds a touch of sparkle with copper accents as well as texture to any surface.

Add reflective candlelight and dim the lights with this stunning gold and terracotta wall candle sconce from Oliver Bonas (6) or this designer-inspired cinnamon-infused candle from M&S (4).  A touch of warm metal will also reflect light, so look out for metallic pieces like this trendy marble-effect and brushed gold side table from Matalan (7).
