With the weather finally starting to lift, we naturally tend to turn our attention to the outdoors.
Our gardens, neglected over the winter months, finally come to life again and the sun is hanging higher in a blue sky. Longer, warmer days lift our spirts as everything around us begins to wake again.
Nature has long been an inspiration in home décor and in the spring, there’s no better time to use the outdoors to create a lighter and fresher feel inside. Capture the spirit of the season with my pick of the trendiest accessories to create a spring-like feel in your home.
The boho trend is alive and well this spring so consider swapping out those heavier pieces in your home for ones that would look just as great outdoors as in. A new pendant light shade in a warm and relaxed material, like this rattan shade from Made (#1), will add a touch of natural brightening above a dining room table or in a row above a breakfast bar.
Consider filling a spot in front of a bright sunny window with a rattan bench. This natural woven sofa from House Doctor (#13) is at the top of my wish list for the bay window in my bedroom but it would be just as perfect in a hallway with a few cosy cushions to make it that much more inviting.
Or you might consider updating a few of your smaller pieces with a 70s vibe. A pair of retro rattan bedside tables from The French Bedroom Company (#3) could be the perfect way to brighten up your boho-inspired bedroom.
And It Was All Yellow
One of the boldest trends of 2019 is the addition of bright pops of yellow in our décor. If there was any colour that embodied the feel of spring, it’s this one. Refresh your walls with a new sunny art print from Rifle Paper Co (#5) or swap out your heavy winter textiles for a softly-patterned fringed throw from Lapuan Kankurit (#11).
If you’re ready to give your home a good spring clean, consider some organisational pieces that do double duty – creating calm in chaos whilst also bringing in a fresh fun vibe. The bold yellow coat hook from Red Candy (#9) hung in a hallway is the perfect way to greet your guests as they enter your home.
With brighter days ahead, look out for items that will reflect that light around a room. Hanging a few additional mirrors is the perfect antidote for a room that doesn’t get a lot of sunlight, maximising and reflecting back any light into the room.
The lozenge shape is another big hit this season and it’s captured perfectly in this Lozenge mirror from John Lewis (#2). Hang it in a hallway or in a bedroom to create a trendy look without breaking the bank.
Look out for clear glass vases like this pale green bud vase from Anabel James (#10) and this pink vase from Sweetpea & Willow (#12) as well. Not only are they perfect for displaying your spring blooms but they’ll also allow light to pass through them, creating an open and airy vibe on a shelf, table or along your mantle.
Finally, consider adding a few new plants to your home this time of year. This ombre collection of herb pots from Anabelle James (#8) would be the perfect propagators on a sunny kitchen windowsill.
Hanging plant pots as well as textural ceramics are both incredibly popular this year so hit two trends in one with this hanging pink planter from Orla Kiely (#6).
Of course, if you have a bit of a black thumb, never fear – you can still get on the trend with faux plants and flowers. This gorgeous faux peony arrangement from Sweetpea & Willow (#7) will stay fresh and in bloom all spring and summer long.
And finally, consider bringing in some of the scents of the season. Is there anything better than the smell of fresh cut grass? If you agree, then consider a reed diffuser from Sophie Allport (#4) which will create that luscious fragrance throughout your space.
