North East housebuilder Avant Homes is set to bring 185 homes to a sought-after suburb of Gateshead after successfully purchasing a piece of land near to High Spen village.
Initial planning was approved in December 2018 and following the completion of the land acquisition, the build preparation works for the new £33m development will commence later in 2020 with showhomes to follow in spring 2021.
The 16-acre site will include 185 of Avant’s high-quality two, three and four-bedroom homes across nine design-led housetypes. At the development, 15 per cent of the new homes will also be affordable.
Located 20-minutes from Gateshead town centre on Collingdon Road, the new development will take approximately four and a half years to complete. In addition to providing new homes for High Spen, Avant Homes will also contribute upwards of £1m towards local infrastructure, highway improvements and apprenticeship schemes.
Avant Homes North East regional director, Jennifer Tupman, said: “We are thrilled to have moved forward with this purchase of land as part of our latest development in High Spen and we are now preparing to start the initial groundworks later in the year.
“With its excellent transport links and highly-commended schools, this area is becoming an increasingly desirable place to live due to its location and nearby amenities and the delivery of our high-quality, new-build homes will make a significant contribution to the area’s wider community growth plans. We look forward to announcing our first homes for sale in autumn 2021.”
High Spen is a semi-rural location with local amenities, schools and supermarkets on the doorstep. The village is well connected and situated just a 10-minute drive from the A1(M) leading to Newcastle, Gateshead and Durham, while public transport is easily accessible for commuters.
