Things to do

Glasgow is home to many of Scotland's most iconic buildings, some housing the city's museums and art galleries. Here you will find everything from pre-history to Picasso. The historic City Chambers is a sight to see as is the stunning Glasgow Cathedral, which is next to one of the most significant cemeteries in Europe, The Necropolis.

Football fans won’t want to miss the behind-the-scenes tour of Scotland's national stadium at The Hampden Experience and walk around the world-famous Rangers and Celtic Football Clubs.

Glasgow’s most famous son, Charles Rennie Mackintosh made his mark across the city, with his unique style being seen at the Willow, The Lighthouse, House for an Art Lover, and The Willow Tea Rooms.

As a world-famous University city, it is no surprise that the campuses of such esteemed institutions draw crowds, whether Mackintosh's masterpiece, the Glasgow School of Art or the University of Glasgow, which many have likened to Hogwarts. There are also plenty of family-friendly activities, with exhibits and interactive shows at the Glasgow Science Centre on the River Clyde, whilst Loch Lomond Aquarium is just a short distance away from the city.

For history buffs, the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery offers historic finds within Scotland's oldest museum.

Glasgow is the gateway to Scotland's magnificent landscapes, and without travelling far you can find yourself in the heart of the Bonnie Hills, exploring Loch Lomond and Clyde Muirshiel National Park.

Whisky lovers fear not as the Glengoyne Distillery and The Clydeside Distillery are on the city’s doorstep whilst a visit to Tennent's Wellpark Brewery gives fascinating insight into the history and success of Scotland's oldest brewery.

Shopping

Glasgow is the perfect place for some retail therapy, with the city offering shops to suit all needs and budgets. From high street favourites to small independent stores and designer fashion – you'll find everything you need in Glasgow.

Most of the city's shops can be found on Glasgow's Style Mile in the city centre, where all stores are close together meaning you can browse at your leisure. This is the home to shopping centres and premier department stores including St. Enoch Centre, Ingram Street, Buchanan Galleries, Buchanan Quarter, Princes Square and much more.

Transport

Glasgow Central Station links Glasgow by train to the south and England, while Glasgow Queen Street Station mainly links to Edinburgh and the north of the country.

The city is also close to major motorways, so whether you’re travelling for business or pleasure, drivers can easily access other parts of the UK.

Getting around the city couldn’t be easier with Scotrail and SPT Subway services to over 100 stations in Greater Glasgow as well as first-class bus services around the city, allowing you to soak in the sights as you travel.

For those wanting to travel further afield, Glasgow Airport is a short 15-minute drive from the city centre, offering flights to Europe, the USA, Dubai and more as well as quick and easy domestic travel.

Food

Glasgow’s food and drink scene is diverse and vibrant, with cuisine to whet all appetites. Eating and drinking are firmly embedded in the city’s culture: coffee and cake while shopping, lunch in a museum, drinks before a gig or dinner in one of Glasgow’s exciting neighbourhoods.

In Glasgow, great food, world-class whiskies, and memories made are delivered by the city’s greatest asset – the people.
