Living in Middlesbrough

All of this, right on your doorstep

Things to do

Middlesbrough boasts a wide variety of things to do for all the family.

Within the 120 acres of woodland at Stewart Park, there are lakes, adventure play areas, nature trails, mini-golf, and the chance to get close to a lots of different farm animals such as llamas, deer, peacocks, guinea pigs, cattle, and goats.

Animal lovers will have a great day out at Newham Grange Country Farm, which features more of your favourite farmyard friends and the chance to learn about life on a farm and take a ride on a tractor.

Culture vultures will love the chance to explore the local area and art in the Middleborough Institute of Modern Art and the Dorman Museum.

There are plenty of fun indoor activities for those looking for something a little more action-based when the weather is not on your side. Try rock climbing at Rock Antics, enter Our Funhouse for some soft play or take a ride around the tracks at Teeside Karting Centre.

Shopping

Middlesbrough’s shopping district offers a mix of high street favourites and independent stores. Whether you’re looking to treat yourself to something special from the various designer stores, or you’re wanting to pick up the latest trends, there’s something for everyone here.

Middlesbrough is home to many family-run, small independent shops, all found on Linthorpe Road. Bloom Florists specialises in trendy wreaths and beautiful bouquets and just around the corner is baby and children’s apparel specialist Copper Boutique, where you can buy gorgeous clothes for children as well as gifts.

Located just off the pedestrianised area are four large shopping centres: Cleveland Centre, Dundas Arcade Shopping Centre, Hillstreet Centre, and Captain Cook Square. Here you will find all your high street favourites as well as food outlets and a cinema.

Transport

Whether you’re commuting or visiting friends and family elsewhere in the UK and beyond, Middlesbrough is not short of transport options.

Middlesbrough Station offers services to Manchester and Darlington which link to other major cities in the UK.

Sitting near the AI(M) and serviced by many other major A roads means great links to the North and South by car. For those wanting to travel further afield, Durham Tees Valley and Newcastle International airports are less than an hour away by car.

Food

With something to suit every taste and budget, you won’t go hungry in Middlesbrough. Head to Linthorpe Road for award-winning independent restaurants or the newly developed Baker Street, full of cafes and micro-pubs and is home to British homegrown, homemade food. Be sure to check out The Twisted Lip, just slightly off the beaten track and try their Secret Cinema events on a Monday night.

Bedford St Coffee House is a coffee bar that serves delicious, seasonal espressos and filter coffees whilst sourcing their wares with a conscience. Try the gluten free cakes baked by Elizabeth's Kitchen or their range of tasty, nutritious lunches.

You must try Middlesbrough’s most famous dish, the Parmo. A fast-food legend, look out for it on most restaurant and takeaway menus. You won’t regret it!
