From Seely Fields, it’s only an 8-minute drive to Alfreton Train Station, where you can catch regular services to some of the UK’s biggest cities including Sheffield, Liverpool, Nottingham, Leeds, and Norwich. 

East Midlands Airport is also only a 34-minute drive from Seely Fields – offering both domestic and European flights.

Somercotes is home to a number of primary and secondary schools, the most notable of which are Somercotes Academy, the local secondary school, and Somercotes Infant School and Nursery, the local nursery. 

Popular retailers

Several popular retail brands can be found on Nottingham Rd. 

Also on Nottingham Rd. are a number of home and garden brands, including B&M and The Range, as well as several big supermarket chains, like Iceland and Aldi.

Somercotes is a beautiful village which boasts blissful hiking trails including the picturesque little nature reserve at Pennytown Ponds. 

Aside from the village’s natural attractions, there’s also the Somercotes Library and the popular art gallery, the Leabrooks Art Complex, both of which are great ways to while away your day.

Active things to do in Alfreton

If you enjoy playing a round or two, there’s the Alfreton Golf Club – a 10-hole golf course that welcomes players of every level to get involved. 

They regularly host fun competitions – including a men’s division, women’s division and a juniors’ division – and we strongly recommend applying to be a member and getting involved!

Alfreton Leisure Centre is another place popular amongst the town’s more active locals, offering exercise classes and yoga sessions as well as a sizeable swimming pool to its members.

If you have little ones, Alfreton Leisure Centre also boasts a soft play area, a creche, football lessons, and a kids club during the school holidays, to give your kids somewhere to use up all that seemingly unlimited energy!
