Tell us a little bit about yourselves
Iain and I have been together since August 2021. Iain is a PE teacher at the local high school and I’m a former A&E nurse, who retrained and is now working as a solicitor. We first moved in together at the start of January 2022 and then got engaged in the August, a year to the day that we first met. We got married in December 2023 and can’t wait to spend our first Christmas together as husband and wife in our new home. 

What was your living situation before buying with Avant? 
We previously lived in Iain’s one bedroom flat in Bruntsfield, just outside of Edinburgh city centre. The flat was in a great location, with single level/open plan living. But we outgrew it and needed to upsize so we could start a family in the future. 
What house type did you choose and why did you choose it?
We chose the Tetbury as we both loved the open plan layout of this house type, especially downstairs. As we love to host, having a big kitchen and living room was huge driving factor for us. I work mostly from home, so having a separate study area was also important. We love the double detached garage too; we have converted this into a home gym with a golf simulator. Having always wanted a dressing room, we have expanded our master bedroom with the smallest bedroom making space for this. 

Why did you choose Avant over other developers?
We both really liked the Avant house layouts and the extras that were available on our development. Iain also has a friend who lives on an Avant development nearby and highly recommended the quality of the houses. 
Why did you choose to buy a new build property over a second-hand home?
We chose a new build as it was a blank canvas, giving us the chance to put our own mark on it without renovating a second-hand property. Which we had done previously. 

How did you find the buying process?
The buying process was very smooth and simple. We had great communication from the Avant sales and customer care team throughout the whole buying and moving process.

What do you love the most about your Avant home?

The plot itself is laid out fantastically as it wraps around the corner with the garage, as well as being south facing and the large size. For our options, we went for the upgraded kitchen quartz workshops and cupboard doors. Both upgrades make the kitchen really stand out in our opinion. 

How has your life changed since you moved into your Avant home?

We now have so much more room and space to live and grow together as a family. Plus, we love spending time in our house and garden, we are always coming up with new ideas for decorating. Our development is so peaceful and quiet, all our neighbours are very friendly. We couldn’t have asked for anything better! 

Do you have any tips for anyone looking to buy with Avant homes?

Make sure to visit the show home of the house type you are going to buy. We had only seen the plan at the point of reservation, as there were no Tetbury show homes for us to look at on that development. However, we asked one of our soon-to-be neighbours if we could have a look around their home. We were blown away as soon as we walked inside and saw how spacious it was, we fell in love!

Is there anything else you want to add about your home buying journey?

Upon moving in, we needed to have a couple of minor things fixed. The Site Managers were fantastic, as were all the customer care team. Everything was remedied immediately, and they kept in constant communication with us the whole time. They really went above and beyond!
