Tell us a little bit about yourself: 

I’ve lived in the Chesterfield area all my life and started working at an estate agency at 18. This really helped build my local knowledge of Chesterfield, which eventually helped me decide where I wanted to live. 

Being in the industry, I gained experience with buying and selling homes, which helped me feel more confident about moving out of my parent’s house and buying a home at a young age, whilst most of my friends are still living with parents or at university. 

Since moving in June, I’ve spent my first Christmas in my new home, and I’ve just bought a new puppy in addition to my older dog. 


Which house type did you buy and why did you choose it?

I bought the Thirsk, which is a 2 bedroom home. As it’s only me and my dogs, and my first home, I didn’t want something too big. The Thirsk was also available with Discount Market Sale which allowed me to purchase the property at 80% of it’s value. This gave me the opportunity to get on the property ladder, which I would have otherwise struggled to do. 

Why did you choose Avant Homes over other developers? 

All my family live within 1 mile of each other and Earl’s Park falls right in the middle of them all. Apart from its perfect location, I had not heard anything negative about Avant, therefore it made it an easy decision for me to come straight to site and reserve! The layouts are very practical, as most 2 bedroom homes elsewhere either open straight into or have stairs into the living room. With my Avant home, I don’t have either of these issues. It makes it a lot easier having a lobby area when I have muddy dogs after a long walk. 

What was your motivation for moving home? 

Owning a home was a huge goal for me and I always wanted to buy a new build. When the Earl’s Park development launched, I saw the Discount Market Sale homes and knew it was the perfect opportunity for me, being a solo first time buyer. 

Why did you choose to buy a new build property over a second-hand home?

Living by myself and working full-time, it would have been a big undertaking to buy a second-hand home, which I would have wanted to do work to. With the different options and extras available with a new build, I was able to personalise my home and have it ready for when I moved in. Removing the stress of not only a home move but also renovation. 

How did you find the buying process?

It was so easy! Working in estate agency and dealing with sales that had taken as long as 6 months to go through, it felt so refreshing buying an Avant home and completing within a month. Even though it was a quick turnaround, I never felt rushed or stressed about the purchase and would definitely buy new again. 

What do you love most about the exterior of your home?

I love the garden! People often believe new builds have small gardens, however I have found that this not the case at all. The gardens at Earl’s Park are really generous and mine has plenty of space for my dogs to enjoy. 

What do you love most about the interior of your home?

I love the layout of my home. I have a spacious kitchen which feels just as big as some 3 beds. The layout really maximises the spaces, making a 567 square foot home feel a lot bigger.

Did you go for any upgrades from Avant’s optional extra range?

When I reserved my home, the kitchen and tiling has already been fitted and a washer/dryer, dishwasher, turf, outside tap and fencing was included in the price, as well as my choice of flooring. This made the home ready for me to live in from day one. Having these extras included made the process so much easier as a first time buyer. I didn’t need to worry about buying any large appliances, finding someone to do the flooring or landscaping the garden, it was all done for me. 

How has your life changed since you moved into your Avant Home?

Since moving into my new home, I have gained a new independence which I did not have before, living with my parents. It has also allowed me to buy my first puppy which is something I have always wanted to do! 

What is the community like on your development?

Everyone who lives at Earl’s Park is really friendly. My neighbours were also Discount Market Sale, so they’re all a similar age/position to me, so it’s nice to live amongst like-minded people.

Do you have any tips for anyone looking to buy with Avant Homes?

Go for the extras! Having everything fitted for when I moved in was so much easier than having to worry about getting quotes from tradesman, with the external quotes often working out more expensive. The integrated appliances also make the kitchen look a lot sleeker, instead of having an exposed washing machine or dishwasher. There are so many options to choose from, so I never worried about my home looking the same as my neighbours.
