Lincolnshire is located in the East Midlands and is the second largest county in England, with a long coastline on the North sea to the east.

You can also find some of the best regional produce in Lincolnshire, from locally-reared meats and fresh seafood to delicious cheeses and unique liqueurs.

Things to do

If you’re looking for things to do in Lincolnshire, there’s plenty to explore, from windmills and nature reserves to medieval castles and country parks. 

For those interested in history, Lincolnshire is home to some incredible monuments. Visit Belvoir Castle or Tattershall Castle to see beautiful examples of Norman architecture. Or take a trip back even further in time with a visit to one of the many Iron Age hillforts scattered across the landscape.  

Explore one of Lincolnshire’s many nature reserves, the county is home to a range of wildlife from birds and butterflies to amphibians and mammals. Walking trails are available throughout the area, so you can take in all the beauty of this region without having to venture too far.

If adventuring on foot isn’t for you, there are plenty of off-roading trails, so you can explore the county by quad bike or 4 x 4. You can also go fishing or take a boat out on one of the many lakes in the area. 

Lincolnshire is also known for its windmills, there are around 100 still standing across the county! Visit an open mill such as Maud Foster Windmill in Boston or Burgh le Marsh Windmill near Skegness. You can even book a tour of some mills to learn more about how they were built and used.

Shopping 

Lincolnshire has plenty of shopping opportunities across the county such as: 

  • Marshall’s Yard - An outdoor shopping centre with over 30 popular brands, independent stores, restaurants, coffee shops, beauty salons and more.
  • Springfields Shopping & Leisure - Springfields has over 50 premium high street brands, cafes and restaurants with the added bonus of award winning gardens and a children’s adventure park.
  • Lincoln City Centre - Has over 300 shops and restaurants across the city centre, visit the Waterside Shopping Centre, ST Marks Shopping Centre or explore the Cornhill Quarter that offers luxury fashion, independent stores and franchises. 
  • The Engine Yard - A unique luxury retail village where all the buildings are restored from old estate buildings. You can come here to enjoy local food and drink as well as shop for your home, garden or new clothing. 

There are also a number of crafts, antique and art centres to explore. 

Transport 

Getting to Lincolnshire by car, uses the A1 for visitors from both the north and the south, before reaching the A roads that will take you to the coast or towns of Lincolnshire, as it doesn't have a major motorway. 

You can reach Lincolnshire by train, jump on at Grantham Station and here you can get on trains to reach different parts of Lincolnshire.

National Express runs regular buses from London to Skegness, with a travel time of just over 6 hours, with a number of other routes onto Lincolnshire towns.

Stansted and Doncaster Sheffield airport are close to Lincolnshire borders, with great public transport routes for onward travel. 

Food 

Lincolnshire offers a variety of food from classic British pubs offering hearty pub grub or traditional fish and chips, to Italian pizzerias with fresh handmade pizzas, there's something here for everyone.

If you're looking for something light and healthy, there are plenty of salad bars where you can create your own concoctions. There are also plenty of places that serve vegetarian dishes if that's what you're after.

Lincolnshire is well known for it’s delicious local food, so you’ll find many independent restaurants, cafes and farm shops.

Make sure to visit the award-winning, dog-friendly country pub The Bottle & Glass or The Tobie Norris which is located in one of Stamford’s oldest buildings, dating back to the 13th century. 

There is plenty of food choice across Lincolnshire, with something for everyone.
