This is the first 100 per cent affordable housing deal that Avant Homes has undertaken with Vico Homes, as well as the housebuilder’s first in West Yorkshire. The deal forms part of the business’s ongoing multi-tenure growth strategy.
The homes include two-bedroom accessible bungalows, two- and three-bedroom semi-detached houses, and three- and four-bedroom detached properties.
The first completions at the development are expected to take place in spring next year, and it is anticipated that all homes will be completed by summer 2028 to EPC ratings of ‘B’ or higher.
The homes will be offered to customers on a predominantly Social Rent basis, with some Rent to Buy and Shared Ownership homes also available.
Delivery of this wholly affordable scheme will be made possible by grant funding from Homes England’s £27bn funding programme. This forms part of the UK government’s £39bn investment to deliver more social and affordable housing over the next 10 years.
The deal is the latest in the partnership between Avant Homes, which has its West Yorkshire regional head office in Wakefield, and Vico Homes.
The housebuilder has constructed, or is constructing, homes for the social housing provider in Altofts, near Wakefield; Edenthorpe, near Doncaster; and Birdwell and Dodworth, both near Barnsley.
Phil Lacey, Avant Homes Group head of affordable housing delivery, said: “This 100 per cent affordable housing deal with Vico Homes reflects our commitment to delivering quality, energy-efficient new homes for the people who need them most.
“Our multi-tenure strategy is underpinned by creating long-term partnerships with social housing providers to support in the delivery of further affordable homes.
“The relationship developed with Vico Homes is an excellent example of this and we look forward to continuing this partnership to explore new opportunities together across the Yorkshire region.
“This deal also forms an important part of our wider plans to successfully deliver more than 900 additional affordable homes across 15 developments and a further 550 Section 106 affordable homes.”
Avant Homes operates in the north of England, Scotland and the Midlands. Headquartered in Barlborough, near Chesterfield, Avant Homes’ ambition is to grow its multi-tenure business further across its existing regions and beyond.
Joel Owen, development director at Vico Homes, added: “These new energy-efficient homes will make a real difference for people and families in Wakefield and are a major step forward in our ambition to deliver 10,000 new high-quality affordable homes over the next 10 years across Yorkshire.
“The development builds on a strong and growing partnership, with Avant already delivering homes for us in Altofts, Edenthorpe, Birdwell and Dodworth, and helping us bring more affordable homes to people who need them.”
