182 Wollaton allotments completed following phased development programme

A significant new provision of 182 allotments in the heart of Wollaton has now been formally handed over to Radford Bridge Road Garden Holders Association (RBRGHA)
This follows the completion of a carefully delivered development in partnership with Nottingham-based housebuilder Avant Homes East Midlands.
Wollaton Allotments form part of the planning consent for Avant Homes East Midlands’ Martin’s Reach residential development in the village. The allotment site is accessed via the entrance to Martin’s Reach off Russell Drive.
Divided into North and South sections, the allotment site was delivered through a phased approach, with the phase two Northern plots completed last summer, marking the full delivery of the scheme.
Plot sizes include full plots of 250 sq m and half plots of 125 sq m, each featuring hard-standing areas suitable for a shed or greenhouse, along with access to running water.
Facilities across the site include central communal parking and a community hut on each section, providing space for social gatherings, workshops and gardening activities such as seed and produce swapping.
Both sites are managed by allotment management committees (AMCs), made up of self-elected tenant volunteers responsible for day-to-day operations. The committees work closely with representatives from RBRGHA to support the ongoing management of the allotments.
By adopting a collaborative approach between RBRGHA, Avant Homes East Midlands and project partners, the allotments were completed to Nottingham City Council standards, creating a high-quality, long-term asset for the community.
The project team included RBRGHA representatives Peter Cannon, Keith Whitely and Kathy Cartwright, alongside Peter Stubbings of Kent Services and Avant Homes East Midlands technical director Martyn Pask.
To mark the completion of the scheme, Wollaton Allotments and Avant Homes East Midlands will jointly host a celebratory handover event on Thursday 28 May, welcoming phase two tenants, local councillors and representatives from Nottingham City Council.
Commenting on the project completion, RBRGHA secretary Kathy Cartwright said: “We are very proud of what has been delivered for RBRGHA. This is an outstanding example of modern allotment provision for the benefit of the organisation and its tenants.
“We would like to thank our tenants, who have waited patiently to get on site, local councillors, Nottingham City Council and Avant Homes for making this happen.
“What has been delivered will be enjoyed for generations, providing a place to socialise, learn, exercise and grow fruit, vegetables, herbs, flowers and much more.”
Martyn Pask, technical director at Avant Homes East Midlands, added: “Wollaton Allotments is a superb community facility, and we are very pleased to have helped create a place which provides so many benefits to those that use it.
