Living in Barnsley

Home to our new builds, Barnsley is a market town in South Yorkshire, situated within the Green Belt – a region of untouched countryside, preserved by the council to protect local communities from the negative effects of urbanisation.

People who live in Barnsley benefit from gorgeous outdoor spaces that play host to a whole number of sporting and leisurely activities.

A great selection of schools nearby

The brilliant Birdwell Primary School – heralded for its inclusive and nurturing environment – is conveniently located on the same road as Hay Green Park, whilst Barnsley Sixth Form College – recently named the best South Yorkshire college for overall student satisfaction by the National Student Survey – is only a 12-minute drive from the development.

Great transport links

Just a quick 14-minute drive away, Barnsley Interchange provides both a bus and railway service for commuters.

From here, you can catch direct train services from Barnsley to Sheffield, Leeds, Huddersfield, Chesterfield, and Nottingham.

Barnsley Interchange also offers a number of bus services between Barnsley and the rest of South Yorkshire.

Barnsley restaurants offer a little bit of everything

Boasting an international array of restaurants, Barnsley is home to food from all over the world. For example, with Estábulo, Barnsley brings the taste of Brazil to Yorkshire. Inspired by the traditional Brazilian hot buffet, Rodizio, feast on a seemingly endless array of cuts of meat and unlimited sides at this prestigious restaurant.

Or there’s Pasha, a traditional Turkish restaurant that offers its patrons a selection of kebabs, grilled dishes, pasta dishes, and an extensive kid’s menu. You'll also find the The Crown & Anchor, known for its excellent selection of craft beers, gins and award-winning pies. You won’t struggle for exciting places to eat in Barnsley!

Many reasons to enjoy the outdoors

As well as visiting one of the many parks in Barnsley – including Worsbrough Mill Country Park, Locke Park and Dearne Valley Park – keen golfers, at every level, can also enjoy a day out at the Barnsley Golf Club.

There’s also the local Stainborough Cricket Club where, during the season, you can come down and watch the Barnsley Cricket League play a weekend game.

Thrilling activities for the whole family

Barnsley also offers some brilliant options for a family day out.

The impressive Metrodome offers locals state-of-the-art bowling facilities, having previously hosted both the World Tenpin Masters and the Weber Cup on multiple occasions. The Metrodome is also home to the seriously fun Calypso Cove Water Park.

However, the Metrodome isn’t the only place that offers bowling; Barnsley is also home to the impressive Glass Works which, alongside its bowling alleys, also boasts a Cineworld, several shops, and a Market Kitchen food court.

Aside from the cinema at the Glass Works, there’s also the local Parkway Cinema which is located just opposite the Barnsley Interchange.

For the young explorers in your family, we highly recommend the award-winning Experience Barnsley Museum and Discovery Centre.

Having both been shortlisted for the National Family Friendly Museum Award and awarded the Sandford Award for Heritage Learning in 2022, the Experience Barnsley Museum and Discovery Centre is a great place to take your kids to.

Their Teeny Time Travellers Club, for inquisitive kids aged 5 and below, has proven particularly popular with both children and their parents.

Loads of places to shop

There are a number of arcades and shopping complexes in Barnsley, though the most well-known is the Alhambra Shopping Centre.

Housing 41 shops and being home to prominent brands – including Primark, Next, Vodafone, Iceland, and TK Maxx amongst others – Alhambra is the go-to shopping centre for many in Barnsley. In Barnsley’s town centre, you’ll also find a wide array of high street stores including Marks & Spencer, The Body Shop and Boots.

If Barnsley sounds perfect to you, please do get in touch. Our friendly team will be more than happy to tell you all about our upcoming new builds in Barnsley.
