Things to do

Pristine and well-curated, the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre and Country Park is a fascinating glimpse into the Battle of Bosworth. Learn about the Wars of the Roses inside the interactive exhibition. Thought to be the most educational, historical days out in Leicestershire, there’s also plenty of nature to explore too.

Wrap up warm and hike out to the head of Staunton Harold Reservoir, right on the edge of Leicestershire’s county border with Derbyshire. Dimminsdale Reserve, if your timing is right, is where you’ll find snowdrops as far as the eye can see, with their promise of springtime. It’s also a Site of Special Scientific Interest, so tread carefully and be sure to stay on the paths. Several old mine shafts remain in the Reserve. The area is part of the National Forest, so there is plenty to see and lots of nature to explore here.

To mark the start of Diwali, the Belgrave Road area of Leicester is bathed light, with a Festival of Light opening party in late October. For the two weeks that follow, the city comes alive with theatre performances, parades, exhibitions and, of course, mouth-watering food. All faiths and races come together to join in with the festivities - a celebration for the whole family to enjoy.

The National Space Centre in Leicester is sure to spark your imagination. Packed with artifacts from space and interactive exhibitions, including amazing real rockets and the largest planetarium dome in the country, the centre offers a fun and educational day out for the entire family. You'll also be able to see authentic spacesuits and rock samples brought back from the moon by the Apollo crews.

Shopping

Highcross shopping centre in Leicester is the go-to for high-street favourites, health and beauty, tech must-haves and more. Boasting over 90 stores, everything you need is under one roof.

Willowbrook retail park, on the outskirts of Loughborough, is home to B&M, Pets at Home, and The Range, as well as other big-name brands. Whether on the hunt for a bargain, some new homewares, or a treat for your furry friends, Willowbrook will deliver.

For the best in local produce, head to Farndon Fields, a multi-award-winning farm shop situated on the edge of the beautiful historic town of Market Harborough. Here you can buy produce grown on the farm, quality meat from local farmers and a large selection of fantastic local and British food that has been hand selected by the team on the farm.

Transport

With the M1 motorway running through the heart of the county commenting or travelling by car is simple. The motorway takes you right to the North of the country and to London in the South.

Train stations in Leicester, Loughborough, and Market Harborough, offer links to other major cities in the UK and with London just over an hour away by train from Leicester and Manchester just under two, travelling for business is hassle-free.

East Midlands Airport is just to the North of the county, for those wanting to travel further afield.

Food

A county known for its Asian settlements and therefore mouthwatering Indian cuisine, there are a vast selection of highly rated restaurants to choose from. Dine India has represented Leicester in the curry capital competition for two years running and is incredibly popular with locals. All your Indian favourites are on the menu here as well as must-try chef specials.

The Nags Head in Melton Mowbray is one of the oldest pubs in Leicestershire but don’t be fooled by its olde world exterior, the menu offers modern pub classics and delicious Sunday roasts. This is a family-friendly traditional English pub and has all the potential to become your new local.

Chocaholics, rejoice! Coco Amore is Leicestershire’s premier chocolatier.
