Living in Dundee

All of this, right on your doorstep

Things to do

The £1 billion redevelopment of Dundee City Waterfront has reconnected the city centre to the River Tay. The V&A Museum of Design Dundee is a hub for design and adds further acclaim to the city's cultural product. Culture is at the heart of Dundee and there is plenty to see and do here that the whole family can enjoy.

Dundee has more sweeping countryside on its doorstep than any other Scottish city and its all waiting to be explored. Soak up the heritage and culture, or check out the entertainment on offer, both during the day and after dark. Just four miles to the east of Dundee city centre lies the seaside suburb of Broughty Ferry. Known locally as "the jewel in Dundee's crown", its fine vista and sweeping sands provide the perfect place for a relaxing stroll or a quiet picnic.

Shopping

Dundee is often described as ‘a walkable city’ and its compact nature means there isn't much need for public transport, so you can shop 'til you drop, all by foot.

In the largely pedestrianised city centre, you’ll find a wide selection of known brands and stores in and around The Overgate Shopping Centre

Many of Dundee’s artists, jewellers, designers and artisan food traders often come together along Marketgate to create pop-up markets, particularly in the summer months or around Christmas time.

Transport

With many major A roads circling the city and motorways linking you to the north and south of the country as well as the UK, commuting or travelling by car is straightforward.

Dundee train station offers links to other major cities in Scotland like Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh.

Dundee Airport is on your doorstep so both holidaying and domestic commuting is made simple.

Food

Contemporary restaurants, cosy pubs and enterprising bistros sit alongside cool coffee houses, tasteful cafes, bustling bars, and artisan food shops.

Foodies can enjoy a taste of the area’s abundant local produce at The Dundee Farmers’ Market in the City Square every third Saturday of the month. The pedestrianised section of the city is a welcoming outdoor space for shoppers to browse safely while they sample and buy.
