Well regarded secondary schools like Queen Elizabeth’s High School and the Aegir Specialist Academy are also only a short drive away too, with either taking just seven minutes to get to.

Great transport links

Gainsborough is a town that benefits from having two train stations, making for a less hectic commuter experience.

The bigger of the two, Gainsborough Lea Road, offers hourly services to the likes of Lincoln, Sheffield and Doncaster

There’s also Gainsborough Central which, as its name suggests, is situated in the town’s centre, and offers services to the likes of Sheffield as well as places like Cleethorpes and Brigg.

The town’s main bus station can be found on Hickman Street, from which Stagecoach operates services to the likes of Doncaster, Lincoln, Retford, Scunthorpe, as well as within Gainsborough itself, from Monday to Saturday.

Things to do in Gainsborough

Lying on the east bank of the River Trent, Gainsborough, in Lincolnshire, is a pleasant market town boasting a picturesque waterfront and several wonderful parks.

One of the more popular parks in Gainsborough, Richmond Park features an aviary, several greenhouses, an impressive 600-year-old tree, and the beautiful Whitton Gardens.

There’s also Thonock Park, home to two 18-hole golf courses as well as the excellent Café 19 and its associated restaurant. A popular spot for weddings and other events of similar grandeur, this countryside retreat is certainly a highlight of the town.

However, beyond its countryside extravagances, there are plenty of other things to do in Gainsborough that will keep the whole family entertained.

Staying active

Whilst there’s no shortage of lovely countryside walks in Gainsborough, people looking to have a proper workout or go swimming in Gainsborough can pop by the West Lindsey Leisure Centre, which, aside from a 100-station gym and two swimming pools, also offers members an abundance of group fitness classes, a squash court, a running track, table tennis, badminton, five-a-side football, spa facilities, and a café!

Cultural attractions

When it comes to live entertainment in Gainsborough, there are few better places to go than the Trinity Arts Centre. Trinity is known for putting on exceptional live productions, hosting all manner of concerts and being a go-to comedy spot for the likes of Jason Manford when he’s in town.

The art centre is also home to the go-to arthouse cinema in Gainsborough, a 200-seater that screens a “varied mix of digital cinema”.

For the curious mind, there’s the Gainsborough Heritage Centre – a volunteer-run museum that showcases the history of Gainsborough and its evolving cultural landscape.

Shopping in Gainsborough

In terms of shopping, there’s a huge Tesco’s on Beaumont Street as well as a large shopping centre, Marshall’s Yard, which also features several restaurants and cafés as well as several beauty salons and fitness centres.

Other popular shopping districts include Silver Street, which has a good mix of independent stores as well as a few chains, including Argos, Hallmark and Sports Direct.

You’ll also find a Morrisons on Heapham Road South and a Co-Op at Morton.
