Living in Telford

Telford is home to a UNESCO world heritage site, the Ironbridge Gorge – which is heralded as the first bridge of its size made using cast iron. Its natural landmarks include Wrekin Hill – a mountain of a hill that offers stunning views of Shropshire.

Telford also has one of the best public transport systems in the West Midlands but still makes the effort to preserve its steam trains (the Telford Horsehay Steam Trust).

Telford is considered one of the fastest-growing towns in the UK and is well connected, via the M54, to both the M6 (connecting the town to Wolverhampton and the West Midlands) and the A5 (connecting the town to Shrewsbury and Cannock).

The nearby Shrewsbury railway station also offers a direct service to London Euston and there is a great bus service, run by Arriva Midlands, that keeps the town connected.

The town also boasts a number of golf courses and one of the only ice rinks in the West Midlands (located at the Telford International Centre). The local area also boasts the i54, a 98 hectare technology park!

In terms of shopping and entertainment, its retail sector has seen recent refurbishments with its main shopping district, in the town centre, boasting a large shopping centre, a bowling alley/arcade, an IMAX, and numerous restaurants.

Telford has a great reputation for education provision, providing a number of non-selective academies and selective grammar schools, as well as the boarding school, Wrekin College. In addition, the town has five 6th-form colleges to choose from and is home to both the University of Wolverhampton and Harper Adams University.
