Tell us a little bit about yourselves:

We have been together 5 years this year, having met in the height of Covid. A lot of our first dates were discovering new beaches and outdoor spots to explore since bars and restaurants were closed due to lockdown. We both knew from our first date we had found the one and we have never looked back since!

Fast forward 5 years, 2 homes, many laughs, a few tears and countless holidays later we are 6 months into living in our new Avant home. I love interiors so designing our house has been my main hobby since moving - It's become my personality really. Whilst I can be found styling up an area inside you will find Cameron outside happily cleaning the cars in the driveway or cutting the grass (something that we never had moving from a flat previously). We also recently took on the role of being amateur landscapers, designing and building our garden. Now that it's complete we have been making the most of it throughout spring, enjoying plenty of bbqs, snacks and drinks whenever the sun makes an appearance. It feels so rewarding knowing we did it ourselves too!

What was your living situation before buying with Avant?

We owned a 1 bedroom flat before we bought our 3 bedroom detached home with Avant - this felt like the perfect next move.

Which house type did you buy and why did you choose it?

We chose the Forres, which is a 3 bedroom detached property. Many aspects attracted us to this house type, one of the main reasons was due the house being detached as a 3 bedroom. It is quite rare to find a 3 bedroom that isn't a semi, so straight away this excited us. Also, we loved the layout, I've always loved a cosy living room and spacious kitchen diner and that's exactly what the Forres offered. Our home also had incentives offered including a deposit contribution which pretty much sealed the deal! We also got our flooring included which was another bonus.

Why did you choose Avant Homes over other developers?

Honeyman Park was our local new Avant development, which we happened to drive into and thought it looked like a lovely area and liked the exterior look of the houses. Avant also are very affordable compared to some other local developers - as well as offering brilliant incentives as mentioned.

What was your motivation for moving home?

We were ready to move up from our flat and were really keen to have a garden to enjoy during the summer months. Having a driveway with enough space for both our cars was also a big factor—no more relying on allocated parking. We were excited about having extra bedrooms for guests, as well as a larger kitchen and a proper dining space, which made the move feel like the right next step for us.

Why did you choose to buy a new build property over a second-hand home?

The main attraction for us was the blank canvas aspect, it was completely fresh and were able to choose exactly how we wanted everything to be (designing my own kitchen was a total dream for me). We also found that in the current housing market, many second-hand homes were selling well above asking price, with Avant, we had the reassurance of a fixed price, so we knew exactly where we stood, along with the added benefit of incentives that helped with overall costs.

How did you find the buying process?

It wasn't completely smooth sailing throughout, but from what we've heard, that's quite common whether you're buying a new build or a second-hand home. Now that we're settled in and any snagging issues have been resolved, it was definitely worth it to get where we are today. We've also had great support from the customer care team and site staff along the way, which made a real difference.

What do you love most about the exterior of your house?

The garden is definitely our favourite feature. The way the plot is laid out means we ended up with a larger-than-average garden for a three-bedroom home, which we absolutely love. We also really like the style of the windows, they have a modern feel while still keeping a classic look.

What do you love most about the interior of your house?

Our favourite part has to be the spacious kitchen diner- it's perfect for hosting and preparing nice meals. We also particularly like that all three bedrooms are generously sized and can comfortably accommodate double beds.

Did you go for any upgrades from Avant's optional extras range?

Yes, we chose quite a few upgrades, with the main focus being on the kitchen. We upgraded almost everything, including the cabinets to a more timeless shaker style, and added beautiful antique brass handles for a classic finish. We also opted for quartz worktops (total game changer) which included an upgraded sink and tap. We also opted for an upgraded appliance package which included a matching microwave grill and oven, as well as an upgraded extractor and induction hob. We also chose integrated dishwasher and washing machine for that clean, polished look.

In the bathrooms, we upgraded the en suite to a rainfall-style shower with two shower heads, as well as the over-bath shower and screen in the main bathroom. We also upgraded the tiles throughout (also worth it, the tiles are huge and really luxurious) and added spotlights in all bathrooms.

Throughout the house, we upgraded all sockets and switches to chrome to help move away from the typical ‘plain new build’ look.

Outside, we paid for turfing, which also included an outdoor tap, and installed a 6-foot fence between our garden and the neighbours for added privacy.

Have you found your energy bills more affordable since living in an Avant home?

Yes, our monthly energy bills are cheaper than in our flat!

How has life changed since you moved into your Avant home?

The best way to answer this is that we live so comfortably now, we have several areas for chilling and hosting between the spacious diner, cosy living room, huge garden and going upstairs to bed at night! We truly wake up every day loving to be living in our home.
