Moving home is an exciting fresh start, but tackling it in the heat can be a real challenge. From lifting boxes to long journeys, the weather can quickly take its toll. In this blog, we share simple, practical tips to help you keep cool during a summer house move. Helping you settle into your new home feeling refreshed, not frustrated.

Get up with the sun

Begin your move as early as possible to take advantage of cooler morning temperatures. You’ll avoid the intense mid day heat, making lifting and loading much more manageable. An early start also gives you more time for unpacking and settling in.

Stay hydrated

Hydration is key to avoiding heat exhaustion during a summer move. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and avoid caffeinated or alcoholic drinks, which can dehydrate you. Staying well hydrated helps you maintain energy, focus and a clear head while moving.

Keep your home cool

Keeping your home cool during hot weather starts with managing airflow and sunlight. Open windows on opposite sides of the house to create a cross breeze (when the air is cooler e.g. mornings or evenings), and use fans to move air through the space. Close curtains or blinds during the day to block direct sunlight and help reduce indoor temperatures naturally.

Avoid generating more heat

During a summer move, try to minimise indoor heat by limiting the use of appliances like ovens, stovetops and tumble dryers. Instead, cook outside on a barbecue if you can or opt for no-cook meals. Also, switch off unused electronics, as they can contribute to rising indoor temperatures.

Take cool showers or baths

Taking a cool shower or bath is one of the quickest ways to lower your core body temperature. The cold water helps reduce circulation near the skin's surface, lowers your heart rate and brings down overall body heat. It’s especially useful after physical activity like lifting or unpacking, helping you feel refreshed, re-energised and ready to carry on with your move.

Wear suitable clothing

To stay cool in hot weather, prioritise lightweight, breathable fabrics like linen, cotton and chambray. These materials allow air to circulate and help wick away sweat, keeping your body temperature down. Opt for loose fitting clothes in light colours to reflect sunlight. Consider options like linen trousers, shorts, cotton T-shirts or a flowing dress for all-day comfort while you move.

A summer move doesn’t have to leave you overheated. By staying hydrated, dressing for the weather and keeping your space cool, you can manage the heat and settle into your new Avant home comfortably and confidently.
