Avant Homes launches innovative sales talent training initiative

By the end of this year, Avant Homes will have 50 live sites across the UK ranging from Dundee to Milton Keynes. The company is currently recruiting across all areas of its regional companies in Scotland, north east England, Yorkshire and the Midlands to facilitate the expansion.

This situation has led Avant Homes to create what is believed to be the first training initiative of its kind to focus on identifying and developing people without new homes sales experience, but with the raw talent to become outstanding sales advisors. It is being piloted by Avant Homes in Yorkshire and qualified electrician, Craig Looker, and former estate agency sales negotiator, Jasmine Tubridy are the first two trainees to have been enrolled on the six-month programme. Both are expected to complete their training at the end of 2015.

Commenting on the new initiative, Avant Homes’ chief executive officer, Colin Lewis, said: “At Avant Homes, we are committed to giving our customers the best possible experience throughout the home buying process. This ranges from the design of our properties and their superior specification to outstanding customer service.

“As our approach to providing new homes is different from the competition, we felt the way we go about finding great sales people, and the training they receive, should reflect this philosophy and be defined by our distinct way of doing things.

Jasmine and Craig are two such people. We are very impressed with their eagerness to learn and we are confident that they will both add significant value to Avant Homes’ sales talent pool.”

The sales training involves a six-step programme combining classroom-based activities and vocational training across Avant Homes’ developments. The scheme aims to develop and train budding sales professionals in order to provide outstanding service to both Avant Homes as an employee and to the company’s customers.

A major aspect of the initiative involves educating trainees on what the company calls ‘The Avant Homes Way’ so that they understand how the business sets itself apart from the competition. This sees trainees initially taken behind the scenes of the housebuilding industry to equip them with the technical knowledge to understand Avant Homes’ points of difference from a design and build perspective. 

Using ‘The Avant Homes Way’ as a foundation, the training programme goes on to educate recruits about the customer journey whilst developing their sales skills and helping them learn industry legislation. The scheme also covers the land-buying process, marketing of developments and new homes as well as how to manage a showhome and marketing suite.
